Why study about Spirit Soul Body?


Heb 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because
you no longer try to understand

  1. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you
    the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!
  2. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching
    about righteousness.
  3. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to
    distinguish good from evil.
    Heb 6: 1Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be
    taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that
    lead to death, and of faith in God,
  4. instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the
    dead, and eternal judgment.
    3.And God permitting, we will do so.
    Eph 1: 11In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of
    him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
  5. in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of
    his glory.
  6. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel
    of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the
    promised Holy Spirit,
  7. who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are
    God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
    Born again new creation
    2 Corinth 5:16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even
    though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no
    longer.

17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away;
behold, new things have come.
We are a spirit, with a soul, living in a body
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged
sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
1 Thes 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May
your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ.

You(spirit) – Your body – Your mind:

Rom 12 :1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a

living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your

mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable

and perfect.

God created (Hebrew – bara) man and woman as a spirit and formed them from dust:

Creation

Gen 1: 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let

them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle,

over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male

and female He created them.

Gen 2: 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested

from all His work which God had created and made.

Gen 5: 1 This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He

made him in the likeness of God.

2He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the

day they were created.

Zechariah 12: 1, “The oracle of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus declares the

Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man

within him.”

Genesis 6: 3, “Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh:

his days shall be 120 years.”

Job 33: 4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Answer me, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand. Behold, I am

toward God as you are; I too was pinched off from a piece of clay. Behold, no fear of me

need terrify you; my pressure will not be heavy upon you.”

Formed: – In mother’s womb

Jer 1: 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified

you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Gen 2: 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into

his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Ps 139 :15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

16.Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of

them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Isaiah 49: 5 And now the Lord says, he who formed me from the womb to be his

servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him— for I am

honored in the eyes of the Lord, and my God has become my strength

Ephesians 1: 4 Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we

should be holy and blameless before him. In love.

Isaiah 44: 2 Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you from the womb and will

help you: Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

Job 31: 15 Did not he who made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion

us in the womb?

Isaiah 49: 1 Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The

LORD called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name.

Our body ( Soma) – a Vessel of clay – Dwelling place of the spirit

2 corint 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power

is from God and not from us.

1Thes 4:4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification

and honor,

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit:

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who

is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Matt 12:43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places

seeking rest and does not find it.

44Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house

unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.

45Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go

in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how

it will be with this wicked generation.”

Luke 11: 24 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places

Matt 12 28But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of

God has come upon you.

29“Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions

unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.

Luke 11: 20But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has

come upon you

21“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe.

22But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in

which the man trusted and divides up his plunder.

Our Soul: Also mentioned as heart, mind.

Includes: 1.Intellect (logical mind), Conscious mind, Sub Conscious mind, Emotions,

2.Emotions( feelings, passions)

3.Human will (will power)

Rom 12: 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the

renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his

good, pleasing and perfect will.

Ps 51: 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Ps 73: 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my

portion forever.

John 14: 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world

gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Life by the Spirit

Eph 2: 2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,

2.in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of

the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

3. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and

following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

4. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,

5.made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you

have been saved.

6.And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in

Christ Jesus,

7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace,

expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it

is the gift of God—

9 not by works, so that no one can boast.10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in

Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

John 3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless

they are born again NIV

John 3:3 Jesus answered him, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a

person is born again [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he

cannot [ever] see and experience the kingdom of God.”AMP

1 John 4:13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his

Spirit.

1Corint 6: 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

John 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud

voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.

38Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from

within them.”

39By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up

to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Greater, Greatest In the kingdom of God

Luke 1:13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has

been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name

14“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

15“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he

will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

16“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

17“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO

TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to

the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Matt 11: 11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone

greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater

than he.

12From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been

subjected to violence, d and violent people have been raiding it.

13For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.

14And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.

15Whoever has ears, let them hear.

Disciple’s heart burn within them:

Luke 24:13Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about

seven miles a from Jerusalem.

14They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.

15As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and

walked along with them;

16but they were kept from recognizing him.

17He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”They stood still,

their faces downcast.

18One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who

does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19“What things?” he asked.“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet,

powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.

20The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they

crucified him;

21but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is

more, it is the third day since all this took place.

22In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning

23but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels,

who said he was alive.

24Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had

said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets

have spoken!

26Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”

27And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in

all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he

were going farther.

29But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost

over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to

give it to them.

31Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their

sight.

32They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with

us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Psalm 16:5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.

6. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful

inheritance.

7. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.

8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Luke 24: 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

Acts 16:14 Among those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth

from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to

respond to Paul’s message.

Praying in the spirit:

Flesh weak, Soul overwhelmed. Spirit is willing

Matt 26:36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said

to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be

sorrowful and troubled.

38Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay

here and keep watch with me.”

39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is

possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

40Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep

watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.

41“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the

flesh is weak.”

Mark 14: 32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit

and troubled.

34“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay

John 4:19“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet.

20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where

we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the

Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

22You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for

salvation is from the Jews.

23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the

Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

2 corint 3: 13We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the

Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away.

14But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old

covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

15Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.

16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

18And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate a the Lord’s glory, are being

transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is

the Spirit.

1 Corint 14: 2For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no

one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies

the church.

5I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy.

14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

15So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding;

I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.

16Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now

put in the position of an inquirer, d say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not

know what you are saying?

17You are giving thanks well enough, but no one else is edified.

18I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.

Rom 8: 26In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to

pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for

words;

27and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He

intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Spiritual power in Prayer

Eph 3:14For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15from whom every family in heaven

and on earth derives its name.

16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his

Spirit in your inner being,

17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted

and established in love,

18may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long

and high and deep is the love of Christ,

19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the

measure of all the fullness of God.

20Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according

to his power that is at work within us,

21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever

and ever! Amen.

Matt 4:1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted a by the devil.

2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

3The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to

become bread.”

4Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that

comes from the mouth of God.’

Gal 5: 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the

flesh.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness,

23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and

desires.

25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Born again – Your Body or spirit or soul?

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of

God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of

God

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God

unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’

8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it

comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

1 pet 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have

sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the

living and enduring word of God.

24 For,“All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass

withers and the flowers fall,

25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”And this is the word that was preached to

you

Rom 10: 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your

heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:

9If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised

him from the dead, you will be saved.

10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that

you profess your faith and are saved.

Rom 8:10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because

of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.

11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised

Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who

lives in you.

1 corint 15: 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last

Adam, a life-giving spirit.

Holy spirit -Spirit of Jesus- Spirit of his son: Same spirit, different names

Gal 4: 4But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a

woman, born under the law,

5to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

6And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts,

crying out, “Abba, Father!”

7Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through

Christ.

Acts 16:7 And when they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the

Spirit of Jesus would not permit them.

Philip 1:19because I know that through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of

Jesus Christ, my distress will turn out for my deliverance.

Romans 8:9 You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of

God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to

Christ.

1Pet 1:11 trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them

was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you

received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

John 14:16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with

you forever;

17that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him

or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

19“After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live,

20“In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

Transformation in the heart through holy spirit

Ezek 36 :26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you

your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to

keep my laws

Joel 2:28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters

will your old men will dream dreams,your young men will see visions.

John 6: 41“I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

44“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise

them up at the last day.

45It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard

the Father and learned from him comes to me.

46No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the

Father.

47Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.

48I am the bread of life.

49Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died.

50But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not

his flesh to eat?”

drink his blood, you have no life in you.

54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at

the last day.

55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds

on me will live because of me.

58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died,

but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this

offend you?

62Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!

63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they

are full of the Spirit and life.

64Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the

beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.

65He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the

Father has enabled them.”

66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

1 Corint 2: 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in

words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

14The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of

God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are

discerned only through the Spirit.

15The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not

subject to merely human judgments,

16for,“Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind

of Christ.

Rom 8: 6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is

life and peace. Our destiny:

which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

James 2:26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is

dead.

1 Corint 2: 6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the

wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

7But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained

before the ages for our glory,

8which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have

crucified the Lord of glory.

10But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things,

yes, the deep things of God.

11For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?

Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that

we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

13These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the

Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are

foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

16For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the

mind of Christ.

When we die, What happens to our soul, spirit?

1 corint 15: 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it

44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there

is a spiritual body.

45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam

became a life-giving spirit.

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,
